Working Towards A
Bullying-Free School District
The bullying prevention program is currently in place at Central Elementary, West Elementary and Wamego Middle School. Wamego High School will implement the program in the fall of 2005. Classroom level activities, individual interventions with bullies and victims, and community involvement are all vital components of the anti-bullying program. This violence prevention program combines the efforts of all school staff (including teachers, principals, school counselors, cafeteria workers, custodians, bus drivers, etc.) as well as students, parents, and other members of the community to reduce bullying and other violent behaviors.
USD 320’s Efforts Include:
Training of all staff members, PreK - 12.
Establishing a building-level Bully Prevention Coordinating Team of teachers, staff, parents and students.
Administering the Dan Olweus bullying survey to determine when and where bullying occurs at school, and increasing supervision where needed.
Establishing district-wide rules and applying consistent sanctions against bullying.
Rewarding children for pro-social behaviors.
Holding regular classroom meetings to discuss bullying and other social behaviors.
Making use of videos, books and other resources on bullying.
Conducting school-wide assemblies.
Identifying bullies and those who are bullied in order to address individual needs.
Developing strategies for those who are being bullied to anonymously report and/or escape bullying incidents.
