WHS FBLA Students Place 1st in the Nation!
Dakota Bartell, Calder Malin and Ryan Helus, members of Wamego High School’s Future Business Leaders of America, recently competed as a team in the preliminary round of the National FBLA Virtual Business Challenge. They placed 1st in the nation out of 269 teams at the conclusion of this month-long competition. This qualifies them for the opportunity to compete in the final rounds at the FBLA National Leadership Conference this upcoming summer in San Antonio, TX.
This is an official FBLA competitive event sponsored by Knowledge Matters and FBLA. Students use highly visual simulation software to manage a distribution center. Teams are ranked based upon their distribution center’s cumulative profit after running the simulation for an entire virtual year. The challenge lasts for one month, and the students may work through as many virtual years as time will allow. During this fall competition they were able to manage specific aspects of their business, which included the hiring and supervising of their employees at their distribution center. There will be a total of 16 teams from across the nation competing in the final rounds this upcoming summer at the FBLA National Leadership Conference. During this final competition they will control all aspects of the simulation, which will also include fleet management, workflow management and sales management.
Dakota, Ryan and Calder are all juniors at Wamego High School. Dakota is the son of Donald and Nancy Bartell, Ryan is the son of Ron and Sherry Helus, and Calder is the son of Dr. Mike and Rechelle Malin, all of Wamego. Their FBLA adviser is Mrs. Karen Hynek.
